Prisoners freed by Ramadan Donation.

Indian businessman residing in the United Arab Emirates donated about INR 2.5 crore as Ramazan gift to release 900 prisoners from jails. Firoz Merchant, Pure Gold Jewellers Chairperson, is trying to be the Celebrity Samaritan or is he just another good-hearted socialist?

Prisoners go home this Ramzan:

Firoz Merchant had been successful in obtaining the release of 900 prisoners across the UAE since the beginning of 2024, including 495 prisoners from Ajman, 170 prisoners from Fujairah, 121 prisoners from Dubai, 69 prisoners from Umm Al Quwain and 28 from Ras Al Khaimah under the aegis of The Forgotten Society initiative.

Firoz Merchant, businessman and philanthropist went back to the essence of Ramzan this year. Humanity and kindness were reinforced through the freedom of 900 prisoners.

Humanistic endeavor before Ramzan

Since the beginning of 2024, Merchant was concerned about releasing the prisoners from several jails across the UAE. Merchant has played pivotal role in securing the release of prisoners throughout the UAE under the auspices of The Forgotten Society initiative, established in 2008.

These prisoners are from several parts of UAE including 495 from Ajman, 170 from Fujairah, 121 from Dubai, 69 from Umm Al Quwain, and 28 from Ras Al Khaimah.

Over the years, Merchant has collaborated with the Director Generals of Police at the Central Jails located around UAE to secure the release of more than 20,000 detainees belonging to various countries, denominations, and religions.

Firoz Merchant even paid off the debt of the prisoners and donated funds from their air tickets so that the prisoners could return to their home country.

A new face in philanthropy or a unique brand promoter!:

Mr. Merchant claims that as he started this journey, he kept in mind how important it is for the UAE to tolerate people and offer them another chance to be with their families.

In 2024, he hopes to assist in the release of almost 3,000 prisoners.

However, the name of Pure Gold Merchant’s jewellery brand has gained a significant reputation along with his charity.

Merchant wanted to enhance the brand name of Pure Gold Jewellery globally ensuring the return of the prisoners to their homelands indirectly helping in spreading his name.

However, providing the opportunity to the prisoners a new beginning, is indeed deserves appreciation.

UAE administration responds:

The UAE administration has acknowledged the merchant's aid, and senior government figures throughout the UAE have praised him for his forgiveness, kindness, and generosity.
