- Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Mumbai’s International Cruise Terminal (MICT) at Ballard Pier, marking a big boost for India’s maritime infrastructure which will handle one million passengers annually and make the city a premier global cruise tourism hub.
- Developed under the ‘Cruise Bharat Mission’, the terminal will enhance India’s maritime infrastructure and place Mumbai as a premier cruise tourism destination.

- The MICT, spanning over 415,000 square feet, has been designed to handle up to one million passengers annually, with the capacity to house five cruise ships simultaneously. Equipped with 72 check-in and immigration counters, the terminal will provide a seamless and efficient experience for travellers.
What is the significance of the terminal?
- Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, emphasized the significance of the terminal, saying, "The maritime history of Mumbai is rich and an integral part of our civilisation. As a coastal hub, it has served the nation handsomely with its bustling coastal business."
- Sarbananda Sonowal further added the alignment of the terminal’s development with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of transforming India into a global cruise tourism hub through state-of-the-art infrastructure.
What is the inspiration behind the terminal’s interior designs?
- The interiors of the Mumbai’s International Cruise Terminal (MICT) are inspired from its neighbouring vast waters with a wavy pattern visible on its ceiling and blue-coloured benches.
- The pictures of the terminal have surfaced which shows an expansive lobby with one side facing the sea.
- The benches are accompanied by waiting chairs coloured in a hint of orange and red, with mood coloured lighting on the ceiling, completely changing the vibe of the lobby.
- The aesthetics of the terminal do not stop at the interiors, with its exteriors also equipped with what seems like a big LED screen.
What are the key features of the Mumbai Internatinal Cruise Terminal?
- The Mumbai International Cruise Terminal will have 72 immigration check-ins, making sure passengers enjoy a hassle-free and efficient experience.
- The parking space at the terminal can accommodate as many as 300 vehicles simultaneously.
- The MICT has been built as part of the Cruise Bharat Mission and has been designed according to latest global standards.
