They may also form due to stressors from the external environment like ultraviolet (UV) light or tobacco smoke. Free radicals damage your cells when present in high levels. This is where antioxidants play a major role. Antioxidants stabilize free radicals in order to reduce damage. You usually get antioxidants from your diet like green tea. Drinking a cup of green tea at night can help you look and feel younger. Green tea is high in antioxidants called polyphenols. Especially, green tea is high in epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), catechins, and gallic acid which reduce the risk of heart disease, neurological decline, premature aging, and other chronic diseases.
  • Cardamom: Cardamom or elaichi is one of the most treasured spices in Indian kitchens. It is not only known for its rich aroma and flavor, it is also renowned for its powerful health benefits. While it’s commonly used in tea, desserts, and savory dishes, chewing a pod of elaichi before bed is an age-old Ayurvedic remedy that you might be ignoring. Cardamom or elaichi is packed with antioxidants, essential oils, and digestive enzymes that assist the body recover overnight. When consumed at night, cardamom works as a natural cleanser, healer, and relaxant.
  • Dark chocolate or cocoa: Dark chocolate or cocoa is rich in polyphenols which act as antioxidants in the body. Particularly, dark chocolate contains flavonols and other antioxidants that help in protecting the body from sun damage and help in slowing skin aging. Dark chocolate reduces the risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and cognitive decline. Point to be noted is the higher the cocoa content, the higher the flavonol content. Therefore, if you add dark chocolate in your nightly regime, choose a variety with at least 70% cocoa solids and little added sugar.

Lignans have antioxidant effects and helps in lowering the risk of developing a chronic disease like heart disease or breast cancer. Flaxseed also contains omega-3 fatty acid called alpha-linolenic acid (ALA). Consuming flaxseed at night supports a healthy skin membrane by helping the skin stay hydrated and plump, thereby, slowing skin aging.
  • Nuts: Nuts are packed with nutrients and help in making you look and feel younger. Walnuts and almonds are rich in omega-3 fatty acids that act as the major ingredient for healthy skin and fighting inflammation. Omega-3 will make your skin moist and make wrinkles less noticeable.
