DELHI SWEET SHOP OWNER URGES RAHUL GANDHI: “GET MARRIED SOON!
At Delhi’s famous Ghantewala sweet shop, a playful request stole the spotlight as the owner told Rahul Gandhi, “Get married soon—we’re waiting for your wedding sweets order!”
RAHUL GANDHI VISITS OLD DELHI’S GHANTEWALA SWEET SHOP ON DIWALI
- After Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, visited the age-old Ghantewala sweet shop in Old Delhi on the occasion of Diwali, owner Sushant Jain said that he requested the Congress MP that they were waiting for his wedding to bag the mithai order.
- Rahul Gandhi visited the historic shop on Diwali to buy sweets for his family and friends and later shared a video of him trying his hand at making ‘imarti’ and ‘besan laddoo’ at the famous shop.
WHAT DID THE OWNER OF GHANTEWALA SWEET SHOP, SUSHANT JAIN SAY?
- Sushant Jain called Rahul Gandhi India’s “most eligible bachelor” and revealed that his shop has been serving sweets to the Gandhi family for ages.
- "All of India is talking about him being the most eligible bachelor. I said, Rahul ji, please get married soon -- we're waiting, so that we can get the order for your wedding sweets too," Sushant Jain said.
- "When he came, he said he would make them himself and taste them too. His father, the late Rajiv ji, really liked imarti, so I said, Sir, you should try that. So he made imarti. He really likes besan laddus too, so I said, Sir, you can make those as well. So he made these two items," the shop owner added.
WHAT DID RAHUL GANDHI DO AT THE SWEET SHOP?
- During his visit, the Congress MP was seen greeting staff on Diwali and asking them to share how they are making the festival special.
- Later he posted the video on X and said the true sweetness of Diwali lies not just in the ‘thali’, but also in relationships and community.
- "Tried my hand at making imarti and besan laddoo at the famous and historic Ghantewala sweet shop in old Delhi. The sweetness of this centuries-old, iconic shop remains the same - pure, traditional, and heartwarming," Rahul Gandhi said.
- In another post on X, Gandhi extended greetings to the people of the country on the auspicious occasion of Diwali. "May India be illuminated with the lamps of joy, may the light of happiness, prosperity, and love spread in every home," the Leader of Opposition wrote.
Editor’s Note
- Sometimes, the most disarming moments in politics come not from Parliament, but from the people. Rahul Gandhi’s Diwali visit to Old Delhi’s iconic Ghantewala sweet shop turned into one such lighthearted exchange — a reminder that public figures, too, live within the warmth of everyday interactions. Beneath the laughter and the playful “Get married soon” remark lies a deeper truth: India’s political leaders are woven into the nation’s cultural and emotional fabric, not just its power corridors. In a time of division and discontent, a simple festival greeting and shared sweet-making moment offered a rare glimpse of connection — between the leader and the lives he hopes to represent.
