Mumbai Police’s Economic Offences Wing digs up new information

• The EOW dug up new information as Raj Kundra admitted that he paid an amount of the fraud money to actors Bipasha Basu, Neha Dhupia, and producer-director Ekta Kapoor as part of their fees.
• The Mumbai Police’s Economic Offences Wing (EOW) is expected to summon producer-director Ekta Kapoor and actors Bipasha Basu and Neha Dhupia in connection to the Raj Kundra fraud case involving Best Deal TV Pvt Ltd, a now-defunct company that was headed by actor Shilpa Shetty and her businessman husband Raj Kundra.
• As reports say, the EOW will soon send formal requests looking for details of payments received by these celebrities for promoting Best Deal TV – once renowned as India’s first celebrity-based teleshopping channel.
• The company was launched by Shilpa Shetty, Raj Kundra, and Akshay Kumar.
• “We will ask how much they were paid, in what form, and if there were any irregularities in those transactions,” a source stated.

Businessman Deepak Kothari accused Shetty and Kundra of defrauding him of Rs 60.4 crore

• Businessman Deepak Kothari, director at Lotus Capital Finance Services, has accused Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra of defrauding him of Rs 60.4 crore in a loan-cum-investment deal connected to the teleshopping channel.
• Based on Deepak Kothari’s complaint, the EOW registered a case and has been looking into Kundra’s financial records.
• The EOW has also asked for copies of shows and promotional content aired on Best Deal TV, especially those starring Ekta Kapoor, Bipasha Basu, and Neha Dhupia.
• However, Kundra told investigators that CDs and hard drives had already been seized by the Crime Branch’s Property Cell during an earlier probe in a pornography-related case.
