Train journeys are fond parts of our childhood and at that time we were hardly bothered with the infrastructure, the joy of holidays was overpowering. And Railway Ministry had taken an initiative of replacing AC-1st class Executive Chair car coaches of the Shatabdi Express with Anubhuti Luxury Coaches.
Railways turn Aircraft

- Well, the aesthetic coach with anti-graffiti vinyl wrapping is a definite upgrade from the existing Executive chair cars leaving you with a super luxurious aircraft-like experience.
- Adding to the good news is the fact that all these features are unlikely to translate into a fare hike for passengers.
- The 56-seat coach has seats in the 2+2 configuration. LED lights have been fitted to save energy and also provide better lighting.
- The upgraded executive-class coach has cushioned reclining seats with an airline-like leg-rest to make your train travel more comfortable.
- Yet another aircraft-like facility includes the provision of LCD entertainment screens with every seat with personalized headphones.
- The favourite snack table that is usually attached to the back of the seat has now found its way in a compact compartment under the arm rest of the seat. Passengers are required to just pull it out and pack it back again after eating.
- There is also an attendant calling facility above the seat. The 'bell' button will make sure that your queries are answered without moving from your seat.
- Anubhuti coaches get a modular toilet with improved features such as touch-free tap and soap dispenser, hand dryer. This is meant to ensure less wastage of water and also allows for better hygiene. The bio-toilet is in line with Indian Railways' aim to make tracks defecation free.
Railways redefining luxury
- The Indian railways are the fourth largest train network in the world and it can definitely boast of few ultra luxurious trains.
- The Golden Chariot surely give you a vibe of VIP on wheels. Not only are the cabins wooden and gorgeous, unlike other Indian trains the cabins come with their own washroom facilities. The Golden Chariot also boasts of a spa, a gym and restaurants too.
- Maharajas’ Express, in fact, has also been conferred World's Leading Luxury Train award at the World Travel Awards for seven consecutive years from 2012 to 2018. Deluxe cabins, lounge bar, safari bar, library and wine will give company on the journey.
- Palace on Wheels is the first luxurious experience among all the Indian trains and such coaches were used to travel by rulers of princely states of Rajputana, Gujarat, the Nizam of Hyderabad and the Viceroy of British India.
Editor’s Note
Though Railway Minister sure to have undertaken transformational initiatives like construction of Chenab bridge and under-river water tunnel in Kolkata however, poor quality of food and basic hygiene inside the coaches remains bothersome.
