A woman entrepreneur was arrested by Hyderabad Police for allegedly stalking and kidnapping a video jockey with the aim of getting married. Hyderabad Police arrested the culprits and claimed that the 31-year-old lady was an ‘intimacy-seeking stalker’ who hired men to kidnap the victim and put a tracking device on the man's car to keep tabs on his whereabouts.
Accused and victim :
The accused, named Bhogireddy Trishna, owns and operates a digital marketing company.
On a matrimonial website, Trishna came across the pictures of the
victim, TV music channel anchor Pranav Sistla, and struck up a conversation with the account holder two years prior.
A prolonged pre-planned crime:
Trishna chatted with the account holder until she realized it was not a genuine account and some cyber miscreant was misusing Pranav’s photo as the profile picture.
According to the Hyderabad police, Trishna later located Pranav's phone number and used an instant messaging app to get in touch with him.
He told her that he had reported the incident to the cybercrime police station and someone else had used his photo to create a phony account on a matrimony website.
Nevertheless, the woman persisted in messaging Pranav, who then blocked her number.
Trishna, who was anxious to keep in contact with the video jockey, was unfazed by this.
Modus operandi of kidnapping:
Trishna, who was determined to marry him, thought she could straighten things out by kidnapping him, police said.
She hired a man who worked in her office to complete the duty for Rs 50,000.
According to reports, they installed an AirTag in his car to track his whereabouts, which the police subsequently found.
On February 11, the man hired four more people and kidnapped Pranav under the guise of collecting money from Trishna.
According to the Hyderabad police, they took him to Trishna's office and severely assaulted him.
Plan Fails:
Pranav, the kidnapped video jockey was released by the Trishna only when he agreed to respond to her proposal.
Immediately after getting freed from the snatches of the kidnappers, the radio jockey filed a complaint with the Uppal police station and reported the entire incident to Hyderabad police.
Hyderabad Police Acts:
Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 363 (kidnapping), 341 (wrongful restraint), and 342 (wrongful imprisonment) were cited in the case by Hyderabad police
The accused woman and the four men she hired to carry out the kidnapping were arrested by the police during the inquiry.
Editor’s Note:
The case of Pranav and Trishna once again highlighted the threat of cybercrime in social media platforms. When an attention-seeker stalker kidnaps a radio jockey, although it may seem funny, it breaks the concepts of love and marriage. Moreover, kidnapping someone for any reason is a crime and a punishable offense as per IPC. Additionally, the netzines must be cautious regarding the sharing personal information in the social media platforms.
