Ahead of the Lok Sabha election results on June 4, the INDIA alliance has urged the Election Commission (EC) to prioritize the counting of postal ballots over Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) votes. Members of the INDIA alliance met with EC officials, requesting clear guidelines on the counting process and emphasizing the significance of postal ballots. Congress leader Abhishek Singhvi highlighted that postal ballots could swing election results, making their timely counting crucial.
Mid-Day Newspaper alleged that Mangesh Pandilkar, Ravindra Waikar's brother-in-law, used a mobile phone to unlock an EVM during the vote count. These claims were dismissed by Vandana Suryavanshi and the Mumbai police.
In retaliation, the returning officer for the Mumbai North West Lok Sabha constituency dismissed claims of EVM tampering, stating that the Electronic Voting Machine is a self-contained device and does not require a mobile OTP for unlocking as it is non-programmable.
Mid-day and Marathi Daily Lokmat were sent notices for publishing false information. And FIR was filed against Mangesh for using mobile inside at accounting centre.
Vandana Suryavanshi acknowledged that Dinesh Gurav's personal mobile phone was found with an unauthorised person and stated that appropriate action was being taken. Suryavanshi emphasised that data entry and vote counting are separate processes and that an OTP is used solely for the encore login system for data entry.
