Let us start over, or no?
  • Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Chief Mohan Bhagwat had described the consecration of Ram Lalla’s idol at the Ayodhya temple as courageous work which happened as desired by God.
  • And what statement did RSS Chief made soon after BJP fell short of majority at the Lok Sabha polls though they formed government with the allies for the third consecutive time.
  • On the same day as BJP led coalition held its first cabinet meeting, the spellbinding Chief addressed a gathering of RSS leaders and members following the culmination of Karyakarta Vikas Varg in Nagpur
  • During the speech, Mohan Bhagwat remained emphatic that the leaders breached the poll ethics by bad mouthing each other.
  • The veterinarian moved the gathering when he said “Jo vastavik sevak hai, jisko vastavik sevak kaha ja sakta hai, woh maryada se chalta hai… Uss maryada ka paalan karke jo chalta hai woh karm karta hai lekin karmon mein lipt nahi hota. Usme ahankar nahin aata ki maine kiya. Aur wahi sevak kehlane ka adhikari rehta hai (A true sevak adheres to decorum. The one who maintains decorum does his work, but remains unattached. There is no arrogance that I did this. Only such a person has the right to be called a sevak)
  • He sounded resolved while addressing Manipur violence. He demanded urgent attention be given to the strife-torn remote state of Manipur, where there has been over one year of violence, a rare security failure during Modi's rule.
  • Mohan Bhagwat outlined the commitment framework of a ‘sevak.’ He said that a true ‘sevak’ will have to serve the country without ‘ahankar’
  • Recasting equations

  • Narendra Modi and Mohan Bhagwat shared mutual reverence. The RSS Chief had immense faith on Narendra Modi’s leadership at the grass-root level and played key role in building consensus in RSS though many opposed that Modi could lead BJP government.
  • Mohan Bhagwat is the sixth RSS Sarsanghchalak. As the head of the Hindutva family, the RSS provides ideological fuel for its roughly three dozen affiliate groups, which include the ruling party, one of the largest trade unions in the country, a student union active across various universities and a conglomeration of Hindu sadhus and monastic establishments.
  • In 2014, Rajeshwar Singh raked up a storm as he helped convert 250 Muslims to Hindus. On December 21, 2014 Mohan Bhagwat had made it clear that those who have lost their way will be brought back. Narendra Modi who won an unprecedented mandate seven months down the line was put on spot by Bhagwat’s statement. The Ghar Wapsi movement, for the first time ever, put Narendra Modi and Mohan Bhagwat on rough waters.
  • Though Bhagwat instructed the Sangh members not to make any public comments dampening the government working he failed to stop the Parivar organizations to pursue their agenda. RSS had always maintained that organizations play checks-and-balance if the government goes astray.
  • Mohan Bhagwat’s preamble

  • Mohan Bhagwat was born in RSS -steeped family on September 11, 1950.
  • His father Madhukarrao Bhagwat worked as a Pracharak in Gujarat and is one of the people Narendra Modi acknowledged as his mentor. He graduated with gold medal in veterinary sciences from Dr Panjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapeeth in Akola, Maharashtra.
  • Ideological passion made Mohan Bhagwat opt out of his Post Graduation and volunteer for RSS.
  • Bhagwat started as the physical training head with RSS and soon became the General Secretary. In March 2009, Bhagwat took over as the Sarsanghachalak.
  • Bhagwat had envisioned Sangh Parivar to retain political power until RSS’ centenary year, 2025.
  • Lesser-known fact, the RSS stalwart is fond of singing and theatre.
  • Editor’s Note

Mohan Bhagwat had remained true to his role of an ideological parent of RSS. He is deeply perturbed that peace is not yet restored in Manipur and plans to visit the north-eastern region soon. RSS Chief Architect continues to serve the core mission, unperturbed.
