Controlling a mouse with a human brain is possible right now. Credit goes to Elon Musk, who recently provided an update on Neuralink, one of his most ambitious projects, stating that the first human testing produced encouraging findings.

Borrowing from ancient Indian belief of a pigeon spying for bordering kingdoms, Mumbai police which had imprisoned a pigeon for 6 months in suspicion of being a Chinese government spy has now released the poor bird to return to the borderless sky.

and why? The villagers were driven by the rumour of buried gold and started digging. Though, they did not enjoy the taste of gold, accidentally discovered the traces of ancient Harapan civilization.

    Accidental discovery
  • People of Lodrani, a hamlet located approximately 51 miles from UNESCO World Heritage Site Dholavira in Kutch district of Gujrat, had started excavating the area because they thought there might be gold hidden there.
  • What they discovered, though, is a trace of ancient civilization of the Harappan settlement that may have originated as early as 2600 BC, according to researchers.
  • Lodrani was actually a fortified settlement during the Harappan civilization.
  • The Harappan Pottery that have been accidentally found by villagers while searching for gold is akin to the pottery that are very common in both Harappa and Mohenjo-Daro.
  • The archaeological perspective
  • Along with the discovery of the new archaeological cities, Government of Gujrat and the archaeologists across the country started showing the interest to the newly discovered ancient civilization.
  • Leading archaeologists involved in this excavation, Ajay Yadav and Damian Robinson of Oxford's School of Archaeology, noted that the architecture of Lodrani is similar to that of Dholavira, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Ajay Yadv has pointed that the Dholavira is a part of ancient Harappan civilization.
  • Henceforth, the traces discovered at Lodrani, is integral to the great Harappan civilization
  • Archaeologist Ajay Yadav has stated, ‘Villagers believed there was a medieval fortress and buried treasure Nevertheless, upon closer inspection, we discovered a Harappan settlement that was thriving 4,500 years ago.’
  • According to Mr Yadav, the most significant observation is that the Lodrani village and Dholavira both depended on the sea.
  • As it is so close to the Rann (desert), it can be safely presumed that what became a desert at present, must have been navigable during the time of Harappan civilization.
  • In January, the place was formally named Morodharo, which is Gujarati for ‘less salted, drinkable water.’ Yadav claims that it produced a large amount of pottery of Harappan civilization, similar to what was found at Dholavira.
  • Futile unless preserved
  • After the accidental discovery of the civilization, people across the country have started visiting Lodrani.
  • The archaeological site has become prone to be destroyed with the arrival of overflowing number of tourists.
  • Gujarat Government responds
  • The Government of Gujrat have already reflected their concern by emphasizing the preservation of the traces of discovered civilization in Lodrani village.
  • Apart from UNESCO, The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has also sent experts to the cite for further excavation.
  • Editor’s Note

Discovering the traces of ancient Harappan settlement in modern Kutch district indicates the expansion of the civilization in the pre-historic age. Ancient civilization symbolises the past glory of the nation, India. These settlements need further research and excavation by the archaeologists. Moreover, the discovery must be preserved both by the administration and locals.
